“The exact contrary of what is generally believed, is often the truth” J. Bruerre
Are you a Christian struggling with aspects of your faith? Are you harbouring a growing suspicion that something about church just isn’t right, but you just can’t quite put your finger on it? Is going to church just a stagnant ritual that ultimately leaves you feeling unfulfilled? Do your beliefs suffer from endless contradictions or half truths that simply cannot be reconciled through rational thought or prayerful study and have you simply got questions about your faith that no one seems to have answers for?
No doubt you’ve been told countless times that the problem lies with you - not the church and its practices. After all it depends on your attitude right? You get out what you put in. You are there to serve not to be served….the same replies over and over, the same struggling to change your attitude and ultimately…. the same feeling of disillusionment.
Or maybe you’re simply a Bible sceptic, an atheist, agnostic or an evolutionist dumbfounded by the nonsensical, unscientific and farcical teachings of the Christian faith. Whatever your background, if you answered yes to any of these questions - YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
But here is an interesting thought. What if your struggles are not the result of the poor attitude or unhealthy pessimism you’ve been told you have, but rather, are a sign that something IS ACTUALLY WRONG? What if someone told you that your embattled thoughts are not just unsubstantiated doubts, but are in fact the beginnings of some very enlightened observations regarding the state of today’s church and its teachings and doctrines? Would you believe them? Whether you’re a believer or not, it might surprise you to learn that the scriptures themselves share your view! You will not hear this from your local minister of course, yet rest assured, the scriptures are on your side....and here is the proof! A quick check in Dr Strong’s Bible concordance reveals the truth about a virtually untaught and seemingly ignored portion of scripture regarding the true state of Christendom as it is today.
“Nevertheless when the son of man cometh, shall (gk687 ar-‘ah) he find faith on the earth?”(Luke 18:8)
“Shall” Greek(g687); “ar-’ah” -denoting an interrogation to which a negative answer is presumed:-therefore.
Did you catch that? “shall” A negative answer? A rhetorical question to which the answer is unfavourable? Understand this. There is probably NO greater witness in the whole Bible concerning the state of the “end time” church, than the prophetic words of Christ found in this passage of scripture! Could it be true? That Christ HIMSELF is prophesying, that the very church that expects his return, is the VERY church that will have fallen into such apostasy and error that it is almost unrecognisable?
Yet this is exactly what we at The Remnant Bible Study Resource (R.B.S.R) believe has happened to the Christian church. Here is the truth. Almost all of the doctrines taught throughout Christendom today are in error or are at odds with the actual Hebrew and Greek scriptures. That there are literally hundreds of denominations worldwide, prove the point that the “one faith” the Apostle Paul once contended for, has all but disappeared. We are not saying that the scriptures are fraudulent, but there are many fraudulent teachings prevalent in the church today and there is a reason for this.
What has happened to the Church?
The Bible is without a doubt, the most heavily scrutinised piece of literature known to man. For centuries religious scholars have spent innumerable hours unearthing, dating and critiquing various ancient manuscripts in an attempt to bring an “unadulterated” gospel to the world. Consequently, the formulation of Christian doctrine has undergone a similar evolution. Much of what is taught in the pulpits today is the direct result of religious “enlightenments” forged in the upheavals of reformation history. These pressures (many of them political) have exerted considerable influence on often well meaning attempts to reconcile “divine revelation” to that which is actual Spirit inspired scripture.
It is an unfortunate but certain truth that our present day scriptures, have over time been added to, omitted and sometimes blatantly changed beyond recognition by Bible scholars and theologians right across the denomination divide. It behoves us to ask - what then is scripture and what is not? As with any theological debate, particular portions of scripture have their supporters and detractors - some arguments being more convincing than others however!
So, despite the fact that we have a complete Bible (as far as true revelation is concerned) there is little doubt that historically, influential translations of the Old and particularly the New Testament manuscripts have been tampered with and changed over time. Yet many of these textual errors are responsible for the formulation of some of Christianities most sacred doctrines.
“Ten to 12.5 per cent of the New Testament is possibly tainted. There is general agreement that 7/8 to 9/10 of the text of the NT is critically above suspicion;" (John L. McKENZIE, Dictionary of the Bible, 1968, Geoffrey Chapman, London, page 883 b.)
“The differences among the manuscripts [of the Gospels] have become great, either through the negligency of some copyists or through the perverse audacity of others.” 185-254 A.D., Christian texts already corrupted.Origen [?185-?254 A.D.] (p 152) -- The Text of the New Testament: Its Transmission, Corruption, and Restoration, by Bruce M. Metzger
“The rationale behind the choice of the scriptures was, first and foremost, authenticity. This was true of both the New and the Old Testaments. There were many spurious tracts and these had to be culled out. A large volume of literature, especially Gnostic works, were springing up like weeds, not only complicating the choices, but adding a sense of urgency to the task of identifying those that were authentically apostolic.” Good news Christian Ministry
Few Christians are aware of the fact that even current Bible translations are under the constant scrutiny of scholars and experts who study, critique and authenticate various ancient Bible texts. Thousands of changes have been made to the King James Bible alone since its debut in 1611AD. Although the original writers of the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts were divinely inspired, many of the translators (despite noble efforts) sadly WERE NOT! Bibles are being reviewed and critiqued all the time for their textual integrity. As most modern bibles are updated versions of the KJV Bible the following saying “A lie told often enough becomes truth” is an apt one.
Such a statement today would seem far removed from the comeliness of Church life as we know it and its unquestionable doctrines however. On the contrary, it evokes images that have more in common with the kind of rhetoric espoused by tyrants and despots, masters of propaganda and manipulation. To many Christians, such an audacious comment on the nature of mans flippancy could be afforded no place within the daily discussions of church culture, for fear of “breaking the unity” of the body. However, scripture speaks just as explicitly when warning us to take heed, concerning matters of holding fast to the truth.
"For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them" (Acts 20:29-30).
Now the Apostle Paul was always particular with his words. He was not merely suggesting that things might go “a little astray” concerning Christian doctrine. No, he also echoes Christ’s view that things would get worse rather than better “I KNOW this!” he declares knowingly and prophetically of his beloved church.
“A time will come when people will not listen to accurate teachings. Instead, they will follow their own desires and surround themselves with teachers who tell them what they want to hear and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.” (2 Tim 4:3-4)
Just as Paul stated, apostasy and error spread quickly throughout the early church. By the time the Apostles had all died, a plethora of unscriptural and pagan teachings were beginning to infiltrate and take hold of the early Christian congregations.
'As it was in the days of Noah ... even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of Man shall be revealed ' (Luke 17:26-30)
Dare any Christian believe the above scripture to be true? After all, how many righteous people were there on the face of the earth in Noah’s day? What then do we learn from this one scripture alone concerning the state of the “end time” church? We have to believe the scriptures!
And so one of the greatest ironies in Christendom, is the churches own lack of awareness concerning its standing in prophecy. Very few “mainstream” Christians would even begin to entertain the fact that there might be something seriously wrong with its methodology and practices let alone its doctrines, on the contrary. The modern, cutting edge Church it would seem (according to inspired evangelical preachers and pastors worldwide), is enjoying a time of unparalleled success both evangelically and not to mention financially. Yet what sayeth the scriptures?
“So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked”: (Rev 3:16-17)
Only three - four centuries after Christ’s death and resurrection, the Orthodox Christian church as a whole had become paganised and politicised beyond redemption. It behoves us then to contemplate where the Christian church might be at today....dare we ask! All this of course is a far cry from the endless self adulating teachings of today’s charismatic preacher’s talking up Christ’s return to a glorious and enlightened church. It is our understanding, that the above facts and prophetic words have not returned empty or escaped fulfilment. If anyone believes the scriptures, then one can only conclude that we do indeed live in such a spiritually destitute church age.
What is “The Remnant Bible Study Resource?”
The Remnant Bible Study Resource is a web based ministry made up of a small Bible believing group of friends, who once regularly attended a Christian church, many of us for years. We were faithful attendees, tithers and in many cases leaders within our local churches. Some of us were worship leaders, musicians and teachers, serving according to our giftings and committed to our faith.
However, underlining all of this was the development, over time, of a growing dissatisfaction towards what we were dedicating ourselves to. A question started to form in all of our minds. “IS THIS ALL THERE IS?” Maybe you have asked yourself this question too? Perhaps you have found yourself dissatisfied with your faith and your Christian experience, going through the same motions over and over again?
Thus individually, we inwardly began to question the doctrines and the methodology practised in our local churches. Scouring the internet out of desperation for the truth, we realised very quickly that we were not alone and what we discovered was truly profound. After much study and further investigation of the scriptures, we discovered that most of what we had been taught in church was sadly lacking in truth. We could be drawn to one conclusion only - that Christian church doctrine today is almost unrecognisable to the actual teachings of the scriptures.
Believe it or not, most of the doctrines taught in the modern church are grossly in error - the consequences being a watering down of the truth and an inability for people to achieve tangible changes in their lives. Christians the world over have hopelessly applied these false teachings to themselves in the hope of overcoming personal deficits and gaining real spiritual growth and victory.
“They will appear to have a godly life, but they will not let its power change them. Stay away from such people.” (2 Timothy 3:5)
“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men”. (Mat 15:8- 9)
This means that most of what we have considered foundational Christian belief (that we have based our faith and walk upon) is completely wrong! Not an easy truth to swallow. So we began to separate ourselves to the truth and found others of like mind to meet and encourage each other. Thus this site began out of a desire for the truth.
The purpose of this website
The Remnant Bible Study Resource is a non denominational website dedicated to revealing the truth of the scriptures commonly known as the Christian Bible. As we have stated, it is our belief that a great deal is wrong with the teachings of the mainstream Christian church. Unscholarly theological doctrines and false practices have become commonplace throughout Christendom - not to mention the fact that many shady pseudo sciences and inane philosophies, have turned many secular experts away from even considering the Christian faith.
Today, Christian teachings right across the denominational divide have become so corrupt and church doctrine so unscriptural, that they are almost unrecognisable to the early Apostolic Church recorded in the New Testament scriptures. This corruption of the scriptures is so prevalent that no modern Christian denomination existing today is without blemish, all having “turned their ears from the truth and being turned aside to myths” (2 Tim 4:4)
This is not just our opinion. If you believe the scriptures, then this is surely the ONLY possible conclusion.
And so this website is a ministry dedicated to the truth of God’s Word - albeit the truth is not always appreciated. In many instances (as we have personally experienced) the truth that really set us free, was initially an unwelcome inconvenience to the daily order of our lives. Yet once set free by the truth, going back to the slavery of falsehood and error in simply not an option! It is therefore our goal to make known the truth of the scriptures, as to the understanding that God has granted us thus far.
This alone is the motivation for the formation of R.B.S.R. and as the truth is not for sale, so the information and resources here are free to all to use. The only thing we hold sacred is the Spirit inspired word of God. All beliefs and doctrine must be held up to the light of scriptural revelation.
Study resource for all
R.B.S.R. is dedicated so sourcing and cataloguing only the most thorough Bible scholarship available online. In a time of such universal apostasy, true Bible scholarship is hard to come by. We hope that in directing you to various sites and articles, we can save you countless hours of wandering from website to website in search of the truth.
In addition to sourcing topical articles, we have made available our own study notes based on the resource articles we have collated. These articles are a pastiche (a “best of” if you like - for those who simply do not have the time to pore over hundreds of pages from essays and various articles) that we ourselves have put together for our own personal use.
The main content of these study notes are sourced directly from the links of the related topic - ALL credit goes to the authors of these papers. It is of the utmost importance that that we stress this point! We have made changes to these collective study notes only for the purposes of continuity and flow, in keeping with the integrity of the real articles and the intentions of their authors. We strongly urge you to read the original articles (resources listed on the study note introduction pages) themselves and visit the associated links. What WE write in entirety we will declare as such. We trust that this is a clear declaration of our purposes and intentions for starting this website - to lead truth seekers to sound study material and to usher into existence in accordance with scripture, their own personal reformation of truth.
So we welcome you here to The Remnant Bible Study Resource and extend an invitation to all those who are of like mind - to join us in our desire to attain and contend for God’s truths despite what it may cost us in order to do so. It is a plea to those who might seek after the Spirit of truth and to those of us who no longer find satisfaction in “agreeing to disagree” on matters of doctrine that can so easily be proved.
R.B.S.R. is a call to those with the “ears to hear” and “eyes to see” and to those of us interested in rediscovering the integrity of the early church as recorded in the book of Acts. Only the truth will suffice, for:
“There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all" (Eph. 4.4-6).
It must be stated that the articles on this site regarding theological and doctrinal teachings are works in progress. We endeavour to formulate our articles only in the light of what has been revealed to thus far. It is by no means a complete body of work nor indeed can it be. Amendments shall be made in accordance with scriptural revelation and topics readdressed and expanded upon as and when necessary.
The principle of testing and proving scripture (matching spiritual with spiritual) is paramount to the incremental nature of this project. All formulated doctrines shall undergo ongoing scrutiny and will be critiqued against ‘spiritual witnesses’ (their scriptural counterparts) before being agreed upon and posted.
"Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches; COMPARING SPIRITUAL THINGS WITH SPIRITUAL" (I Cor. 2:13).
The Spirit inspired word of God alone is to be held sacred. All beliefs (including currently held ones) shall be tried and tested in the light of truth. It is our solemn prayer that these foundational doctrines (including those not yet added) would serve us in strengthening our convictions and aid us in our ability to contend for the truth. These articles then are essential to the purposes for which we have been called apart- to be a people dedicated to serving and worshiping God in Spirit and in truth.
As such, it should be also noted in no uncertain terms that we don’t want your MONEY!!! This of course is not a common statement heard in many church circles today. The practice of tithing is in fact an Old Testament practice that has NO place within the dispensation of the New Covenant that we are now under - this we shall elaborate upon in due course. R.B.S.R is a teaching website, free for the use of all that are drawn here by the Spirit of God. We are not money changers trying to make a buck from desperate or searching people, so be put at ease on that account.
This is as much our journey as it is yours as we strive and hope for the prize of the high calling of Christ Jesus. We are simply trying to obey the calling that God has placed on us by doing this. We look forward with anticipation for what He has in store for you and will take no credit for that either. The true currency of the Kingdom is obedience and obedience is true worship.
"God is SPIRIT, and those who are worshipping Him must be worshiping in spirit and truth" (John 4:24)
“The truth which makes men free is for the most part, the truth which men prefer not to hear”. Herbert Agar
Now, we know firsthand, that no-one likes to be told they are wrong. It is an axiomatic statement of fact concerning human nature. Thankfully an experience under such duress is often soon enough forgotten. PROVING somebody wrong however is much different. The way we conduct ourselves under such circumstances is often the “acid test” and a true testament of our character.
However, PROVING SCRIPTURE or DOCTRINE is without a doubt, an exercise in an entirely different league of its own and it can be done only one way. It requires the Spirit of God and it requires us to be called by God! “For no man can come to me except the Father which sent me draw him…” (John 6:44) Draw, Greek “drag”
Such a feat, as we are learning, requires our humility, patience and resolve. It must be said, humble pie is an acquired taste! “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but a fool despises wisdom and discipline.” (Prov 1:7)
Thus we are compelled to make our intentions and declarations known, firstly to ourselves and then to those who would seek the truths of the scriptures. Consequently we value one thing above all else. THE TRUTH and at ANY COST! There are indeed many sacred cows that need to be brought to the theological slaughter house, for surely the “time is come that JUDGMENT must begin at The House of God…" (I Pet. 4:17).
is talking to Gentiles) are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own peculiar (special) people…” (1Peter 2:9)
It is our belief that before God judges the world in righteousness, another judgement must and is taking place as we speak. It is upon HIS house, HIS chosen and elect, a nation of priests that have been called apart, “salted with fire” and refined for the very purposes of ruling and reigning with Christ. This is our hope,” for many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:14)
The authority, by which we conduct ourselves regarding our doctrines and beliefs, is fundamental to that which we intend to achieve, getting back to the “one faith”. Thus we are commended by the authority of none other than the scriptures themselves.
"God is SPIRIT, and those who are worshipping Him must be worshiping in spirit and truth" (John 4:24)
Scripture alone demands that we as believers vigilantly seek out Gods truths and root out anything that contradicts his word. You don’t need anyone’s permission to do this. It is in fact a spiritual mandate and a requirement for all those who have a love for the truth!
" …preach with sound doctrine and refute those who contradict it" (Titus 1:9)
"Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches; COMPARING SPIRITUAL THINGS WITH SPIRITUAL" (I Cor. 2:13).
…believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, and he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1Co 2:15-16)
So, the very question we have asked ourselves, we put to you. How far would you go to attain the real truths of God’s word? What if it cost you everything, your reputation, your current belief system and even the respect of your Christian friends or leaders? Just how deep into the rabbit hole would you venture? THE TRUTH AT ANY COST!
A new journey!
Our only loyalty at R.B.S.R is to the truths of God’s Spirit inspired Word, despite the opposition and persecution we may incur. All our beliefs and teachings are and will continue to be held up to the light of scriptural revelation. This means that much of what we have discovered and learnt comes into conflict with traditional Christian theology.
If you feel led to study the materials on this site, you will need to know that what we teach and promote here WILL come into conflict with what is taught in mainstream Christian churches. Please do not feel pressured or obligated to defend this site. Revelation comes from God and it is his good pleasure to give it to those seeking after his truth and will. None of us has all truth and we remain open to Gods teachings as new revelations make themselves known, after all we are all being saved and are continuously being begotten anew.
From our personal experiences with church teaching, we have been taught innumerable times, the so called formulas for to “win the kingdom.” Aside from obeying (often unquestionably) and submitting to every teaching out of our Pastors mouths, we would be entreated to “Die to the Flesh” and “put on the Mind of Christ” in order that we might “overcome.” However, being Christians, some for over 30+ years, we can say with our hands on our hearts that Not Once did anyone show us how to actually do these things and apply these truths into our day to day walk. Bereft of understanding, we were left to our own devices and ultimately surrendered to our carnality, ending in defeat and racked with guilt and condemnation for continuous failings.
In retrospect we discovered that this failing wasn’t just ours, it was also the failure of those who taught us. The truth is that our church leaders suffered the same lack of understanding of the scriptures that we did, they proving to be no more equipped to succeed than we were - and why would they? They too had been desperately clinging onto the same powerless doctrinal concepts that we were ourselves clinging to. Understand, we are not knocking church leaders nor believers in their attempts to teach and live according to the Word of God, we applaud it. What we are saying is that people have been led in error for so long now, that they no longer can recognise the truth anymore. They have “believed the lie,” not knowing better: “...but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.” (Proverbs 27:7)
What we have encountered during our new journey of understanding has made the last short while more fulfilling than the whole of our Christian walks. Why? Because now we really are starting to understand what it is to “overcome.” Now we are no longer slaves to condemnation. We have all this through the generous revelation of our Father’s grace and good will towards us. We want to share this with all of you in the hope that you too will open yourselves to the “divine inspiration” of our Holy God.
So, as this website progresses, we will be adding new articles and new teachings that will change your entire view of the scriptures and of our glorious God. It is our hope that our resources will actually aid you as God teaches you HOW to be all that He wants you to be, HOW to actually make changes in your life and to really overcome. It’s very exciting. Trust us.
Trust your own eyes as you read the scriptures with a new light of understanding. You will never be the same again. Ask the Lord to reveal the truth to you, the truth that truly sets us free – he will not lead you astray! Please enjoy your time amongst us as we find out the truth together, “speaking the truth in love we grow.”
We wish you the best.
